Fryeburg Fair - A sure sign fall has arrived is when the trucks carrying Smokey's Greater Shows and live stock trailers go south on Route 5 past the store to end up at Maine's premiere country fair and end the fair season...at the Fryeburg Fair. oct 2, 2009

Hunting Season - Seasonal changes mean the outdoorsmen will shift gears. Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife should be checked to confirm you are fishing or hunting within the laws of Maine. oct 1, 2009

Fall Foliage - The trees of Maine are starting to show their...fall colors. The peak of the season in many parts of the sate will coincide with the long Columbus Day week-end. oct 10, 2009

Winter in Maine - It's finally cooling off. Nights in the mid 20's; days in the low 40's. Still a bit warm for December in Maine, but winter is about here. Sunday River's had a few false starts. Man made snow was within 200 feet of Barker lift when a heat wave hit and melted everything. They opened however on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Here's a winter tease from one of my favorites the Humble Farmer. dec 4, 2006

Local Maine

"Lived here all your life?" "Not yet."

Oct 1 - Next week in Newry one of the highlights of the year. The Fourth Annual North American Wife Carrying Championships. The Course It's 278 yards long, beginning with an uphill run on a dirt road and continuing a field. there's a hairpin turn, a 20-foot water obstacle that can be waist deep and two 39-inch long hurdles. More to follow.

Sept 26 - The summer season has come to an end. It always seem so short. Almost all of our seasonal friends have closed their camps and headed for warmer climes; the locals are putting in their wood for winter; Sunday River has mailed out the seasonal passes; and I'm trying to zero in on the products that have a limited shelf life. Every year I get caught. Usually it's produce and milk. This year the spoiled milk will go to Chris' one week old "Dutch Belt" calf.
